Shyam Brass Band
or more popularly known as Shyam Band, established
in 1971 by our founder Late Shri. Ishwari Prasad. Shyam
Band is one of India’s finest authentic and first
internationally acclaimed brass band specialized in
performing processions at festivals, weddings, and other
high profile events. The band group is as big as 150
musicians consisting of musicians from a variety of
musical backgrounds, and play a range of instruments
including, trumpets, trombones, saxophones, clarinets,
dhol & other traditional Indian style leather/fiber based
rhythm instruments and percussions.
The concept behind the band is based on
traditional brass bands from the Indian sub-continent
which are an integral part of the Indian culture and play
an essential role at any high profile event such as Indian
weddings, religious festivals, social events of importance
and even jazz festivals, they are regularly seen marching
through the towns and villages dressed in their unique
eye-catching outfits.
Typically the brass bands in Indian
sub-continent perform in weddings processions, of
bridegroom and his guests, towards the wedding venue to go
onto introduce them to the bride family, the procession is
called a “Baraat”. The Indian weddings are a grand &
colourfull occasion with hundreds of guests dancing on the
band music. It is a privilege to mention that the presence
& performance of Shyam Band in these weddings are
considered a prestige due to our sheer quality performance
and guarantee to get the guests up and dancing.
The earlier wedding bands consisted of
instruments like the Shahnai (a double reed instrument)
alongside percussion instruments but these days this has
changed to the use of the clarinet alongside brass
instruments such as trumpets, saxophone and sousaphone.
Our band is a strong 150-piece brass band
which can vary in size depending on the clients budget and
requirement, usually it would have between 20-30 members
in a sub-set or even more. The band usually consists of a
leader (the main musician) accompanied by other regular
musicians, together with various session musicians.
Shyam Band is functioning under the
leadership of Mr. Ashok Kumar and Mr. Manoj Ishwari
Prasad.
Mr. Manoj is a registered & affiliated "A class" musician
with All India Radio and also bagged an award of the
youngest Saxophone player at the age of 14 years. Mr.
Ashok Kumar carries with himself an extraordinary
experience of about 18 years of performing band music.
They both have provided a new dimension to the band
activities and diversified into various other musical
activities such as musical concerts, fusion music etc.
while retaining our unique identity of performing Indian
Classical, Folk, Semi-Classical, Rock, Fusion Music,
Western and all other forms of music without the help of
any musical notations/guides. Their thorough knowledge of
their own musical tradition and occidental experience,
allows them to choose a wild repertoire from Indian
traditional music to popular songs of Indian movies. They
added the sophisticated structures of Indian classical
music to deliver an unexpected performance. Although the
Brass Band culture is inherited from the British during
their rule over
India but we are able to maintain the Indian Version of
Performing the Band Music.
